Please check your shore power leads this w/e

My boat was ashore when I bought it. Electrics and shore power seemed to work just fine. I did, however, get a little "surprise" when I went to polish up the p bracket in the rain. Water ingress in the (as I later found out, horribly corroded) shore-side power connector was joining live and earth.

I like Nigel's connector suggestion on the practical/safety level, but on the aesthetic it does have that whiff of early-2000s custom-build overclocked PC about it

Excellent idea but how would you wire in a neon??

I simply wired a green neon across line and earth and a red across neutral and earth.

All is on if the green is on and the red is off

if non are on you have a missing earth. If the red is on and the green off you have live / neutral crossed.

Mine are permanently connected but you could put in a press to test switch in the neon to earth connection or a double pole switch in the neons to line /neutral connection

Not a good idea IMO, see 19 above.

Yes I read that and I know I and introducing and live / neutral to earth connection. But give me details to what problems it could cause and the likelihood of the problem happening.

FYI I do have a RCD in the circuit which have been mandatory for over 30 years in domestic installations in South Africa. Are RCD mandatory now in the UK they were not when I lived in the UK
