Platform Extension....

Glad to see it has under water lights!

As a T40 owner I think it looks fantastic. The kids can do pitch and putt! What did it cost?

I make no apologies for the underwater lights they really are great and set the mood when we are on board. Was thinking with the platform extended I may even need to upgrade the lights for higher lumens, but will leave that and see next time we are out. Just about to have them fitted to the tender oh AND Lumishore RLX18 x 2 on each of the Jet Ski's :D (sits back and waits for the abuse!!) ;) ;)

So cost is difficult to work out at the moment because I did a few other things at the same time, we upgraded all the Raymarine equipment to the HD system with the new i70 multi-colour displays and the E120w touch screen display, upgraded the Sat TV system (which didn’t work perfectly down there).

It’s been as usual an expensive winter I will work it out and post when I have a breakdown and post later....

What's the plan for the dinghy - are you just going to extend the existing dinghy rails? And ref the central strut under the platform, it looks like you've just extended the length but maintained the same angle of support, is that right? How close is it to that big transom anode?

Hi Jimmy

Yes that’s what we are working on at present (but don’t think it will be too difficult) along with a custom made "step" for want of a better word/description to fit the passerelle to the platform ! :)

As for the struts this pictures shows the angles....

(Have you still got the moulds? :D)
Cheers
Jimmy

Did they end up making a full female mould tool T? Do you still have it?

Regarding the moulds we do still have the individual moulds from each section of the original platform but we only made the large platform mould as a one off construction as you would know to make a permanent mould is very expensive and the guys said there wasnt any real need to make one..... ;)

I think we might need to have a little talk .... :D:D

Cheers

ACE - That looks absolutely fab. Worth buying a T40 just to have the standard platform replaced I should think.

Jimmy, you know it makes sense... :D

Ours has no drag, the boat actually raises itself out of the water as you accelerate, so I think drag would only occur in an underpowered boat, in which case you would use tabs to plane which would solve the problem anyway. I wedged a broom in the tender garage hanging over the original platform & carried out extensive tests before going ahead with our extension.

I have done the calculations the cost of the platform extension was in the region of €11,000.00 this obviously doesn't take into account the yard storage whilst it was being done. The cost mentioned was just all the work associated with the platform.

seems ok-ish for a high quality, custom made job.
for those considering this modif,
the hi lo - version is around 20k euro,
makes sense in the med imho :)

As I said I looked at many and did almost place an order for a hi/lo hydraulic platform it was costed at around £27k but that included survey, delivery and a period of time for installation (the boat is in Spain). To be honest the cost wasn't the main concern I was more concerned about the reliability as i am rather technologically challenged at times and it was "more" that could go wrong  I decided to take a chance with Pepi at the boat yard as he seemed genuine and I am happy that I did.......

Lots of bods advised us to get an upy downy thing, but my thinking was weight, our extension has not changed the behaviour of the boat at all, anything heavier may have done so. Have you taken her out much yet, also looks nice & light.

I've taken her out twice and NO problems, Pepi "the man" has taken her out loads recently and as we thought NO problems. Might even look to extend the side to round her off (so to speak) but not in any rush to do that.

My only concern and has not been tested yet is the maximum weight it can safely carry (I'm nae a wee mannie :D ) we are going to do this with some old fashioned weights in two weeks when I'm back n Spain, we need to have a "safe" load weight .............
