Our boat came with a rigid plastic plastimo dinghy as a tender (well, it was a bit more complicated than that, but, anyway...). Its one of the double-skinned blow-moulded plastic ones, with a single rollerball under/inside the transom. Now I've fixed the leak (why would anyone drill a single 5mm hole under the waterline??) and cleaned it up, I'm pretty happy with it.
But - one thing baffles me. Built in to the stern thwart/seat is a mysterious cavity (just above my knee in the picture). It comprises a vertical cyclindrical cavity, about the size to hold a big vacuum flask, joined to a more box-like one of about half the depth. I cannot for the life of me work out what is/was meant to go in there! (Unless it really is for a thermos and a sandwich box...) It seems un-necessarily complicated in shape for a fuel can. Any ideas?
