Plastimo Neptune 2000 issue

Ive had to have the gas piping replaced on my Contessa 32 following the survey condemming the pipiwork. I have a Neptune 2000 and the gas man is saying that because the hob controls can be turned on without pushing in then it must be replaced. Is this an issue with these cookers. Unfortunately he's now removed all the piping so we cannot test. Is there some switch/catch on the hob controls. If anyone has a manual that might help convince its working as designed

I don't think the hob controls have to be pushed in to rotate them. However, I can't see why that should require the cooker to be replaced. There's nothing apparent in the Boat Safety Scheme recommendations. Maybe your gas man just wants to sell you a cooker?

I think you have to push the knob in to get gas to flow before it is lit, ie to override the flame failure device.

The advice you got from your gasman seems a bit confused, does he know how the cooker is supposed to work?

For later versions, this would be right. The Neptune 2000 on my last boat was older and only had flame failure on the oven burner.

From memory flame failure devices are compusory for boats on rivers & canals that come under the boat safety scheme, but there are no rules for seagoing boats (just don't blow up near me please :ambivalence

It's good practice to have them anyway, but there's no must about it. I'd suspect he wants to sell you something, or he could just not understand the application of the rules - it isn't unheard off.

From what I've read the cooker the Neptune replaced (Vanessa?) had push and turn knobs but no flame failure protection. I know the Neptune has flame failure protection (well ours does) which means you push and hold to light. You don't get both!

You will know if it has flame failure protection by the heat sensors next to the burners.

Think all he is saying is that it does not have flame failure devices, but there are no regulations that say you need them on a sea going boat, although it does make sense to fit a cooker with this safety device.

Mine's a similar age. Does the thermostat work on your oven? I'm sure ours used to - it would do a lovely half leg of lamb. Not convinced it's throttling down anymore. Anyone know how they work? Which bit do I hit!?
