Does anybody know of a source of hob burners for an older Plastimo (1989) Atlantic cooker. I'm told that they are no longer available so I'd have to replace the cooker. My problem is that the hob burners don't light fully over half heat. I've replaced the bottle regulator but no change. Any help advice appreciated. Thanks.

The screws holding the caps on are rusted and I wanted an escape route before I damaged anything so no, I haven't.

Hi
some if not all of the Plastimo cookers were made by a company called "Leisure Products (Bolton) Ltd" who have been very helpfull in the past.

Tried to find new burners but they are not available. I suspect because they are not flame failure type things. I gave up and have bought a new cooker.

I assume by "caps" you mean the top of the burners? I re-built an old boat a couple of years back using cooker.fridge/oven from a car/caravan breakers.

The bolts holding the burner tops on were rusted (of course) and sheared off. I drilled them out and bought a cheap tap & wrench and re-cut threads. Worked a treat and not so hard to do. Give it a whirl, you haven't got too much to lose.

The other thing about LPG cookers is the jets are tiny, and get partially blocked up. Try cleaning them with a bit of speaker wire stripped back to expose the strands and work from the back after removing them. Just rotate the wire back & forth and blow mightily up the hole. Worked for me on my old Electrolux gas fridge and heaven knows the jet on those is really small!

We have a Plastimo Neptune stove, and I bought some spare parts for it at SIBS in September - new burners, grill and thermocouples were approx GBP 150..... and I think a new stove is around GBP 350 or so..... it would have been more sensible in this disposable society we live in today to get a new stove one time, but that would have been a bit difficult to take on a plane with me, whereas the spares didnt take up much room....

I have done as Cliveshep describes several times with my 1984 Atlantic. You will find the burners caked up with rust, but the cast iron caps clean up OK. Once you drill the head off the screw, you can with luck shift the remains with mole-grips by working carefully backwards and forwards. Amazing how fast a kettle boils afterwards!

I also endorse Leisure Products of Bolton - they 'repaired' my tired Neptune cooker for £150. When I got it back the burners has been replaced for flame failure type, thr grill burner has bben replaced and the oven had been converted to a thermostatically controlled one. Great service!

If you can get the burner apart it is most likeley that the secondary air gap, between the burner and its base has corroded closed. Once the cap is off, the catellated burner will lift clear. It sits on small projections which create a very small gap between it and the component beneath it. Cleaning off the crud ( a small glass fibre brush is ideal) puts it to rights.
