Plastimo Canister Life Raft - don\'t use the carry handles !

Or if you do, make sure the raft is the correct way up. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Son and I were carrying ours indoors from the car, one handle each. suddenly the canister split open, and raft ended up on the driveway. Then i realised that the red tape is nothing more than wide insulationg tape holding the two halves of the canister together.

The weight of the contents is enough for the tape to fail.

Always ensure you have the canister the correct way up so the handles being fixed to the lower section are taking the weight properly.

Good news is the raft didnt inflate, should be easy enough to fix.

When we first bought our liferaft one of the crew thought the plastic strap holding the two halves together was part of the packaging and cut it off!

The raft should have two plastic binding tapes around it as well, when we used to service rafts we used to replace these so not sure why they are not on the raft, did you buy it second hand?

[/ QUOTE ]the raft was brand new in March last year.

The two white straps lasted until this summer when they started to disintegrate into a pile of dust on the deck below. At this point i assumed they were meant to be temporary /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
