Having invested considerably in a matched brass clock and barometer, I was extremely lucky in that when the glass of the barometer fell out, marking its first birthday, it did not break.

Any hints on what to use and how to stick it back in?

Before you start, I have considered glue!

Anyone from Plastimo reading this, I recommend bracing yourself for a barrage of correspondence from those with the same experience!

Basic (clear) bathroom sealer - silicon- as this has room for expansion etc. Obviously applied sparingly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If they are the same models that I have then beware that in order to change the clock battery or to adjust the barometer you need to unscrw the instrument from the bulkhead or else cut access holes through the bulkhead. Also the clock takes an unusual size of battery although there's plenty of room for a clock motor which takes a common and cheap AA size. Furthermore, the hand-adjustable hand on the barometer rapidly became loose so that it sat permanently at 0600 hours and I couldn't find any way to remove the glass to get at the back in order to tighten it. In the end I dabbed a bit of epoxy around the spindle and then gave it a slight twist just before it set. This introduced enough friction into the mechanism to make it OK.

Very simple answer to that : Velcro. Why screw in place ? Or fit keyhole plates that hook over screw heads.

same thing happened to me with both instruments. Luckily the glass only broke on one. Tooke it to a glazier who put new ones in using sperglue.
Last month same thing happened with my sone yacht. So this time did it myself using clear epoxy glue. worked a treat

Thanks all - glad to know I'm not the only one. Thought it might be the heat in Dubai, but if it happens on the East coast then there is a major design/assembly problem!

Mine dropped out to. I tried superglue but it only lasts a few months then drops out again. Last time I used contact adhesive. A bit messy but has lasted a season.

Loctite does a special glass glue that we used to replace our Plastimo "pop out" glass in the barometer. The tricky bit was finding a glazier who could cut the circular glass and drill the hole in the middle for the needle spindle. I think that hole is the weak point. If the glass is a tight fit in the brasswork it cannot expand and just takes the least line of resistance. We were i n southern Brittany having supper when the glass just exploded into two bits and crashed on the saloon floor. I made sure that the new glass had a bit more room to move and it has lasted us through two very hot Med summers.
