Plastimo 608S headsail reefing system (turnbuckle type)

I bought one of these and cannot get the turnbuckle to go up inside the drum. I have had to connect the forestay directly to the chainplates thus losing adjustment and a drum sitting higher than I like.I do not know the forestay diameter (Westerly Pageant) offhand. Anyone out there fitted one of these? Thanks, Peter.

Glad to hear another company with a "Product assistance After-sales service" department takes their responsibilities seriously.

Why don't they just have an auto reply e-mail that says

"Dear Customer,
Sod Off."

I am not sure why you are having problems, I have a similar unit (older) and do not have a problem getting the turnbuckle inside the drum. The drum is hollow and you can get fingers around the turnbuckle.

Are you sure you have not got some kind of removable plate on the bottom of the drum that you need to take off when using for this purpose, or, could you explain better what the problem is?

I just could not get the clevis pin at the top of the rigging screw into the drum.Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Should the rigging screw easily fit inside the drum?

The last time I fitted mine I had the turnbuckle closed right up, I have a choice of mounting holes so can determine how much adjustment is left by which hole I fit the boat end to.

Fully closed it jammed the rolled solid, not just tight. I think it put the full weight of the mast onto the poles, would not be surprised if the wire inside was flopping about.

I found I have to have the turnbuckle no less than 1/2 open (if that makes sense) on the top threads, otherwise the top fork is trying to enter the tubes.

When I used a solid tube turnbuckle this was never an issue, it is since I have new rigging and an open screw type.

I helped a friend fit a 608 to his jaguar 22. We had to change the turnbuckle(bottlescrew) for a new one as the old one wouldnt fit in.

Also had to use KY jelly as a lubricant to get the sections to go together easier.(Didnt ask why he had it on board /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif)
