Plastic glasses coming at Aldi

The day I drink a decent single malt from a plastic "glass", you can nail the lid down. Am I the only person that cannot drink from a plastic glass. Even in the summer when my local won't allow glasses outside I'd rather walk the extra mile to the next pub who will. I cannot bring myself to use these......am I odd?

Not at all. I have Waterford Crystal for my Laphroaig on my MAB and would never settle for less. SWMBO insists on white Wedgwood for our meals. We also have circa 1950's bone handled cutlery.

I am always astounded, when invited to mutli-thousands of pounds worth of yacht for drinks or a meal, to be issued with plastic glasses and tableware.

+1

It must be because they have so much headroom that real glasses would fly about and break.

You are going to be disappointed with the drinking vessels in which the liquid refreshments are served at the working parties at your new boat yard then. (Although a great improvement on the miscellaneous yogurt pots etc that used to be used in days gone by!)

BTW not forgotten I hope that the w.parties are this weekend.

I too by far prefer real glass, but after spending days with a piece of glass in my foot from my last wineglass on the boat, I feel I might be ready for some plastic, of course I will still have my special CO26 square whiskey tumbler on board, but drinking wine from that doesnt feel right either.

Liquid rope tar. Eugh! Try a decent Speyside: a drink, not a disinfectant.

It'll be an Ardbeg or Laphroaig for me, Jura superstition isn't objectionable, clearly i enjoy the peat, personal preference and everything, but if we were all the same we'd be boring! A 16 or 18yo if available, there are benefits to age after all!

Having said that, the Bruichladdich Waves 8yo is delightfull for the warm-up!

A single malt can only be drunk from a crystal glass.

Laphroiag

Prince Charles is known to have a liking for it.
Speaking for myself, I'd rather drink aftershave! Can't even bear the smell of it in the same room.
Each to their own though.

Always interesting to hear comments about Laphroaig.

My father is an avid malt drinker and is always trying to force this or that brand of Speyside on me.

I just cannot tolerate it, terrible heartburn even after a couple of sips.

Oddly enough this is not the case with Laphroig. I love the peaty taste and it slips down a treat.

I can understand why some find the taste offensive though.

I love Laphroaig. It's like drinking bog water.:D

Anyway, plastic glasses are fine for soft drinks. But once you crack out the wine or spirits real glass is a must.

Wine glasses are a problem though, we had five find their way on board at the very end of the season two years ago. By the end of last season they had all broken. Still, at least they were free...
