So this year we've been to calais and cruised a chunk of the east coast. Next year i want to capitalise on my recent retirement and cruise along as far as i can get along the south coast and possibly cross to ireland.

I do most passages on my own then my wife tends to join me for a few days at interesting places and we do the odd shortish passage together in good weather.

I'm happy to leave Presto in marinas if the weather closes in too much and come back later.

So keen to hear suggestions of how far to aim for over a relaxed summer starting next May. Half thinking of arranging to winter somewhere to give a bit more range.

What size boat?

I have done the SW, N Brittany and Ireland, but have you considered the Baltic? The weather is often very settled in the summer, and once there you and your wife can potter around to your heart’s content, and transport connections are often much easier.

Second for the Baltic, its far more likely to get stead high pressures all summer and getting there can be nicely very varied either any weather doable through the Nederlands or around the top with lots of places to stop either way. I guess though thats more hassle than your wife wants to visit you and you might prefer home ground.

I don't think you need to plan more than each passage as you are about to do it. See where you get to making the best of the weather windows you get.
