This Summer, I will at long last be in a position to buy a boat again. My intention is to buy a trailer sailer, but that's kind of as far as I've got.

My budget is to buy a 4x4 for £1000 (to do nothing but pull the boat - there seem to be plenty of Fronteras and Freelanders around at this price) and then spend £2000 on a boat and trailer.

Because my budget is so low, my choice is clearly limited. I'm interested on any thoughts anyone has on a possible route forwards. My £2000 needs to include a trailer. In a perfect world, I'm thinking something around the 20 foot mark. Is it fair to say there are far more bilge keelers around that, though less convenient for trailer sailing than a lift keel, might still be pressed into service behind a 4x4, or is that too ambitious on most slipways?

Cheers for any thoughts
