Planing Speed

Hi, Pretty new to these type of boats, having come from "yachtie Land". Looking at a Sealine 310 Ambassador. What sort of speed would you expect to have to reach to get it on the plane? Appreciate conditions may affect that slightly. TIA

Whilst the weight of the engines has a measurable effect, there surely has to be a kind of ‘average’ assumption there. So I’m gonna go with 10kn for a 30 footer. That’s just to do the basics, not plane flat, with a lovely long flat wake.

I doubt it will plane at 10 knots. It will be pushing a lot of water at that speed. I would expect minimum 15 knots to plane

Certainly won't be planing at 10 knots. I'd agree, 15 knots and it'll probably be up, but dragging the stern. You'll be needing to be up toward 20 knots to be fully on the plane, the 310 Ambassador is a sterndrive boat so the weight of the engines is right at the back.

You should be able to still be planing at 17/18kts or so with drives down and full trim tabs deployed if lightly loaded.
Anything much less will just be throwing a huge wake - extra people / kit / fuel / water will add weight and make a difference.
