Planar cost vs chinese

..I am still not convinced on these cheapo Chinese things.

China supplies can be anything, quality wise. And you may well have products that you regard highly, coming from there without you knowing.

PLANAR is manufactured by the Russian company Advers, in Russia, which to many would not automatically be better than Chinese.

Well I'm not sure if this is helpful or not but I've just acquired a Triclicks (Chinese) 5KW heater kit to replace a non-working Eberspacher. So i'll be reusing existing air inlet / exhaust hoses and fuel line so I'll let you know how successful it is.... (or not). At the price it is, it really is worth the (slight) gamble..

What do the inland waterways regs require that bumps up an installation from £160 to £400+?
Inland waterways regs require iso 7480 fuel hose ( flame safe reinforced rubber) as apposed to the clear pvc tube supplied with the Chinese heaters. So plus £20.
Also require a fuel cut off valve from a fuel tank that either has certification that it’s diesel fuel safe (if non metal) or is actually metal - most Chinese ones come with a polypropylene white tank. So plus another £20/30 for Tee’s off current? diesel tank and valves or more for a dedicated tank.
The lower quality SS exhaust hose normally supplied with the Chinese heaters is usually too short and a better quality one and the skin fittings will add another £80-120.
So about £180 onto whatever you pay for the Chinese heater makes a safe and for me a reliable heat source for the last 18 months. So - so far so good!

I believe the BSS requires the fuel pipe for a diesel heater to be metal eg copper , and not plastic. I think that is the only BSS thing really.

If using the main diesel tank a pick up pipe separate to the engine fuel pipe is usually provided and this extends to less depth in the fuel tank than the engine fuel pick up. This is to ensure the heater will always leave some fuel for the engine if the fuel level should become low . Not really a BSS thing.

I am not aware of any fuel cock for the diesel heater fuel pipe on my boat although there are fuel shut off valves for the engines.

The upgraded exhaust was included in the £160 already, so it looks like the BSS adds about £50, making the total cost about £210.
A long way short of the £450 that was suggested up thread.

Me too. Works a treat. Just flew through the BSS.

Probably around 20 of the chinascpachers/ Planars in use on our moorings, a couple of boats have two of the things aboard. Several in use in garages and sheds in skippers homes.
No reports of any problems so far. First examples been in use for around 3 or four years . Most owners installed due to replacement cost of Eber units and Eber spares prices.
Several boats only now have a warm air system aboard due to low cost of clone heaters, f itting a Web/ Eber probably would have doubled the value of the boats and been totally out of the financial reach of the owners.
Basically it was either a clone or no heating.

Surely the cost of fitting chinese or German is the same as you have to buy ducting, outlets, exhaust and insulation for both ? That's the expensive part.
It's the heater unit itself where the saving is made.
I've seen quite a few boats replace a dead eber with a chinese which more or less slots in using all the old ducting and exhaust. Cheaper than getting an old eber repaired.
Had 3 years from mine so far.
