I have the responsibility of taking a highly sceptical and some might say unwilling would be (don't wannabe) East Coaster for a weekend on the 25th of September. Now assuming the weather is OK I am thinking a few drinks in the Butt on Friday evening, a gentle sail up to the Ore on Saturday morning with dinner at Orford or on the boat, Sunday a quick sail up to Slaughden then back to the Orwell perhaps a sail further up river or the Stour to show off the plentifull anchorages and delightfull countryside. Any other suggestions particularly if the weather is dissapointing. It's a pity I have not been able to spend more time in this our first year on the East Coast so come on boys if he comes it will be worth the effort, where should we go?:D

Just watch out for the mud bath that could be your experience of going ashore at Pin Mill. If your sceptical East Coaster is concerned about mud this is not such a good idea.

You could try The Ramsholt on The Deben if conditions are right for getting over the bar, or the Maybush Inn at Waldringfield both a bit less muddy. The Deben is a very pretty place to sail. Or, you could go on the hammerhead at Royal Harwich Yacht club and take him in the bar there, or, you could go into Titchmarsh and have a plentiful cavery at a reasonable price.

Have you ever had a swift one up the Butt then

I think you should bring him down to Wallet to sample the delights of Mersea and Tollesbury.

I phoned Doug the other day about this - I'm pretty sure it will be possible to win him over, the question is how many pints will it take? :D

I think it's a done deal he's under orders:D just got to make it more acceptable to him. If the wind has a lot of North in it then the Blackwater and or Colne are the obvious destinations only trouble is they will be totally new to me:eek: and as Abi will be with him it all has to go smoothly so if it looks like we will be heading South expect another post requesting lots of detailed info:)

If Abi's along I agree with Marmalade how about the Walton Backwaters. Whiz them up the Orwell, because it's beautiful and interesting, into the Stour, because it's beautiful, and then over to the Backwaters, just because :)

I checked with Molly to see if we could head up and meet up perhaps but we have something on on the 25th in Somerset, shame :(

My only reservation about the Walton Backwaters is that its a bit isolated and I would like to show Abi some nice shoreside stuff hence Orford a lovely village with good and varied eating, if the weather is poor then it will probably be the Orwell and Stour and leave it up to PD and Abi if they want an overnight anchorage in the Backwaters or perhaps go up into Ipswich and the docks. If you do take him round the Blackwater give me a shout and we will sail down and meet up if thats OK. Hope Doug is not reading all this.
