Just picked up some wonderful recycled pitch pine out of a demolished Victorian chapel. Does anyone have any experience of how epoxy performs with pitch pine? Grateful for advice. Old Frank

Hi

I used just the same stuff for decking in the cockpit. It was very resinous in places and I wiped it all down with acetone first and then epoxied to a ply base. No problems with the glue bond. However, even though the wood was over 100 years old and I thought it would have dried out completely, it still developed a few splits when the locker covers where in the shed during last summer's heat. Course, they've closed up now with such a damp winter but I was surprised by the amount of movement. (The smell of newly cut pitch pine is something else though - quite potent)

Isn't it just! I found a very small piece once when clearing out a shed. It was all black and horrid but the weight had me interested, so I gave it a rub then skimmed it with plane. Amazing smell and beautiful colour.

Blluemoon gaffers spot on.
Good scrub with acetone and the epoxy works fine.
I have recently replaced my worn out teak deck on my wooden trawler with pitch pine. Some old reclaimed stuff and some new stuff. Its not as stable as the teak but its doing fine at the moment.
