Piston hank attachment

The bronze 'tail' was hammered (or pressed) down to fit.

You can open them back up with a large flat screwdriver, but you can't guarantee their integrity for further use.
 
When they are new the claw is open. It is then bent over to secure it loosely around the eyelet. You can try prizing it open but, depending on its condition, it might break.
