Pirates - runners and riders list 4th August

He didn't say!

I'll ping back to clarify

Regards

Ian

Yes, the north end. Approaching from Island Point, the entrance cardinal mark to Hamford Water, you will find that the channel narrows substantially. This in turn is causing strong currents and eddies in the area until you pass No11 (green) mark in Walton Channel.

Should also add that a good number of us have quite a few years of dinghy racing under our belts, and so both appreciative of the needs of the competitors and interested to see them racing.

We've had the event clash in previous years, and I for one have loved watching them racing!

PoH I have seen your band of Pirates at Stone Point for a few years, not really knowing who you were. I appreciate your care for the area, which, regrettably, cannot always be said of all other users. There has never been any complaints about your activities in the past, and I do not expect this year to be any different. Enjoy your day.

If one of our sailing dinghy races passes you while you are there, wave to the good looking guy on one of the safety boats - that will be me!

Pete

Always hopeful

Date is in my diary, and I really would like to meet up with some more fellow East Coasters but, as always, too many unknowns to commit this far ahead.

Whatever, hope you all have a great weekend.

Further to my earlier posting.

Stone Point was recently surveyed by Harwich Haven Authority (26th June)

You can find the results here on the W&FYC website.

Also, be aware of the stronger eddies that have formed between No9 and No13 marks. Vessels are being caught out while navigating this area and being pushed into the shallows.

Advise you moor south of No.13 away from the eddies or you may find yourselves being dragged to places you do not want to go!

Apart from all that - enjoy your time there.

If you have time come down and visit the yacht club and buy me a drink or two!

Nice one Peter.

Very useful – not only to The Pirates but everybody using the Walton Channel.

As agreed, we will keep Stone Point under regular review & post informal opinion on changes as & when we see them occur.

I will certainly buy you a beer when we next meet up.

Possibly we should mention for all of those Pirates (& others) who want to replenish in Walton (Tesco etc.), the Foundry Reach (Split Buoy to the WFYC Pond) is well buoyed & easily accessible by dinghy about 3 hours either side of high water & with care, even longer.

For those who wish to visit in bigger boats details & good pictures are available at:http://marinas.com/view/marina/6637_Bedwell_Company_Boatyard_Walton_on_the_Naze_GB_United_Kingdom.

I was back out at Stone Point today. Further to yesterday's post, mooring to the east of the navigation channel between No.11 and No.13 will be possible towards the southern end of that stretch.

Apart from the visible surface eddies there are strong undercurrents going close to the shore line. Moving southwards from No.11 these appear to dissipate adjacent to No.13. Caution advised if any of your party intend swimming in the area.
