Pirate Weekend

Looking at the latest forecast, I suspect the Sunday return will be fine... The bigger problem is likely to be the Saturday trip..,,

As much as I am keen to see people turn up and enjoy the weekend, if you are lacking in confidence or experience, be aware that the weather is likely to be very gusty, with cloud cells coming through causing substantial changes in wind speed for 15 or 20 min periods....

Going back on Sunday looks good.... Nice and sunny... F3 Westerly....

Ideal I would have thought!

OK folks......

I've had a conflab with Mr FullCircle and we'd like your views on a plan....

The weather forecast for Saturday is really looking very dicey, and I suspect that firstly, a significant number of boats won't turn up due to the wind, and with nearly 3" of rain forecast for Saturday, a beach based event isn't probably going to be that much fun!

BUT.... rather than CANCEL pirates, my suggestion is that we POSTPONE pirates..... to a weekend in September on a date to be agreed by discussion on here.

And, then anyone still keen to meet up this weekend, can still do so, either at Stone point, or by retiring to Titchmarsh. We'll reserve our own decision until we get a sense of reaction and number of still willing participants.

Your thoughts?

Sounds good to me. This morning I decided the conditions were not right for crossing.

But please don't make it the 24 September (Taking the Cubs camping!)

Who knows what the weather will end up doing? I've noticed that there's a tendancy for the weather to be somewhat better than forecast, however it does look pretty grim atm. :( The BBC has Sat night clear. It only needs to shift by 12 hours...

For my part, finding a weekend in September will be unlikely.

I've emailed my crew for opinions.

We plan to sail up to Shotley tomorrow anyway as planned, weather looks ok for tomorrow and Monday when we plan to come back. Pick up brother and nephew late tomorrow night at Shotley, then decide plan Saturday morning. If no miracle happens then Titchmarsh may be a possibility or even a short trip up to ipswich. Guess we might be dressing as pirates anyway as don't want this to be the second time nephew has travelled down for a pirate weekend and been disappointed.

Anybody in Shotley Friday night please drop by for a drink and to help me keep Patrick awake until guests arrive.

Well, I dont think that the winds are gonna be too bad.... but the rain looks like being a PITA....

There has been some change in the past 12 hours on the forecast from ECMWF towards it not being as bad as it was looking....

I still hold some hope that this low could not be too deep and slink away to the north... but I suspect we are still gonna see a occluded front come through mid day.....

It would be nice to get Simons view....

So, we will still be going down to Shotley Tommorrow afternoon.... with a return on Sunday... Cancellation would lead to substantial dissapointment! I suspect a mutiny would be not far off....

Odviously if a second PW is held in September, then we would hope to take part.... OTOH, it would be good if we could have a reasonable plan B for this weekend for those who are about....

It looks to me that there are a good 5 or so boats in Shotley...... might I make the suggestion that we do something in Shotley, maybe followed by a "Parade of Pirate Sail" on Sunday AM??

Saturday evening looks like its gonna moderate... so we could have a beach barbie/ fire there from 7pm or so onwards.., with maybe some piratey rainy activities in the afternoon? We could give a call to Shotley and see if the function room is available... or even stick around for some Adult Piratey drinks in shipwreck?

Anyways... If we do keep with a plan b for this weekend... we could also make a last minute change if the situation improves Friday PM.

We will be around this weekend either way.... so would welcome some social activities Friday/Saturday! (The boat is fully stocked!)

We are on F35!

I dont like to say so, but this is looking at the moment like a sensible discussion. I think we will still go on Friday pm (at the mo - will make the call tomorrow afternoon). October 1st best for us ........

Shotleys function room is booked for Saturday... they have a Disco weekend... (Which might be fun on its own!) But they would be happy to set aside a area downstairs for something.... If we could do something during the day for the Kids on a pirate theme.... honour would be restored!

This is sounding like a plan ........

Afternoon all. Flying visit from yours truly as I had a feeling this weekend might be causing a few concerns when this arrived from Simon Keeling

Not looking good for Saturday I'm sorry to say, but I seem to remember a previous trip where it was a little rough on the way there, then I ended up with sunburn. Weather is such a fickle thing.
In the absence of Guapa, may I forecast a F4 to 7 variable
Good luck chaps and chappeses, Lisa, looks like we may need to make other arrangements for the transfer of 'package' ;)
