I've emailed Gary for a whisper on ETA and an invite for him and Mum to Bradwell. This cannot be ignored can it? With westerlies and maybe only 250 miles to go it could be early Friday or even late Thursday. Keep you posted.
All that way and the last bit across the estuary will probably be the hardest.
And I think we should have a time limit on entries. Otherwise some bright spark will put in their guesstimate when he's visible from the pontoon at Bradwell!
Anyone thinking of heading out to meet him would poss hitch a ride, although not sure how close we wana get is he hasnt been bathing reg in this heat /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
That's buugered the sweepstake then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I shall go over to Bradwell mid-afternoon (I have a sailing day on Friday and the admiral has given me early leave). Anybody else able to come? I'll be on A33 and will check with the marina that he is due in his old berth (he has asked for a bigger one in anticipation of greater things).
I might even have a /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif too.
Unfortunately, have to be here until at least Friday lunchtime so will have to miss the Return of The Conquering Hero. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Just spoken to Alan. He is close to Ramsgate. No wind and low on fuel. I suggested he call in to Ramsgate to top up with diesel, but he is rather keen to do Azores to Bradwell non stop. If, after he's dipped the tank and decided there is enough to carry on, he expects to be in Bradwell this afternoon.
He sounded in very good spirits, but looking forward to a good sleep.
Gave the man a call - half across the estuary. He did pop into Ramsgate for some fuel since when it has been windy! He may have to stick the iron jib on when he gets nearer and punch the tide so as to get back before LWS at 1814. Sailing 1500 miles and then not being able to get into the marina - now that would be cruel /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Excellent news. Off for a shower and a beer now then....
Has anyone considered that coming back was actually more difficult, as he did it more or less in one, and through the entirety of the channel with all the Shipping lanes there.
