Hi All,

I am after a simple pipecot to add to our Starlight 35. I have seen some OEM ones, but want to retrofit.

I have the following requirements;

- Occasional use, just netting as a base (no foam mattress)
- Single size
- Sits in teak U shaped brackets at each corner
- Collapsable / easy to assemble for storage in a locker / elsewhere
- Reasonably light

Any ideas on suppliers?

Hi they are so simple I would think you could easily make with the help of a sail maker and a good local timber yard. I have them on my boat and you're welcome to have a look or I could send some pictures if you pm me. I'm not sure if this is the kind of answer you were hoping for but it's certainly going to get you exactly what you want at a very reasonable cost.

I have been on several boats with pipe-cots from the same stable as your starlight (Rival 34 & 36, Bowman 40 & 42 and Rustler 42) all of which have pipe-cots (on the Rustler 42 I had to specify them as an extra) so I completely understand why you'd want them.

But I concur with the suggestion to make them yourself provided the bulk-heads are parallel. The teak 'U'-shaped brackets are trivial to make. The canvas (modern plastic canvas) fabric cot is easy as well. The poles I've seen have always been thick-walled Aluminium tubing, about the same diameter as scaffolding.

If the bulkheads are not parallel (they are not parallel on the Rustler) the complication is that the tubes have to be made telescopic somehow. PM me if you want close-up photos of mine.

Thanks. Yes please on the photo's.

Did Rustler make them for you? Do you know the manufacture of the poles?
