It is about time some of you owned up and gave a reasonable explanation to two things that have really been bugging me. I doubt there are many who is man or woman enough but we will see.

1) Who has got or even wears pink trousers and why?
2) Do you fly a blue ensign you are not entitled to and why?

The only time I have seen pink trousers is on boaties no matter what nationality they are and I just cannot understand it.

I am in France and I haven’t seen a red duster for months. They are all blue!

Come on, own up and give a good explanation!

Go to the local fisherman's co-op. The do nice pink trousers ( actually a sort of pale tan). I have some from there. De rigour if in Brittany, where the true hairy die hards wear pink shorts in lousy weather.
Sorry, no blue ensign, just one stripe on my tricolour.....

I've just been sailing with the Chesapeake chapter of the Cruising Club of America and attended their AGM. The dress code very firmly stated "jacket and tie". Many if not most of the 50 odd men present were wearing "pink " trousers. Best of all were three who wore knee length pink shorts (and jackets and ties).

No blue or red ensigns of course, but loads of large stars and stripes proudly worn.

I occasionally wear pink trousers. They started off red but faded gradually into the best value sailing trousers I've ever owned, bought in that multi-storey chandlery in Treguier
. it seems the French don't share our weird attitudes to such matters (and they seem to be better sailors).

my boat wears a blue ensign. I spent almost 22 years in the RN, of which I remain proud. membership of RNSA allows me to go blue, so to speak, so why should I not? The unexpected bonus is the number of chip-on-shoulder lefties and others it seems to annoy (only on these forums: I've never met a real person who objects, or to the pink trousers either).

One of the joys of having a sailboat is I can wear pink -or any other- Oxfam shorts.
Don't do yachtclubs and usually forget to unfurl the nicely pinkified duster too. In fact the last time was around lands end as it seemed to help coastguard confirm ID and wander off, possibly just as effective therefore as any other coloured duster. Or it could have been them pink shorts..
One for the OP. When you get somewheres very hot and airless, will you post a pic of the Sari that you will inevitably have to buy?

:D:D:D

Actually, the idea of Yachtsmen sartorially expressing themselves in pink trousers is a misnomer.

What actually happens, and I am not offering a defence, is that red canvas trousers have a definite propensity to fade when worn often in strong sunlight and additionally machine washing which serves to wash out the intensity of the dark red dye, I respectfully submit.:D

What an amusing thread.
My boatie trousers tend to be a mix of pink-ish antifoul, black Stockholm tar, white paint, brown life-caulk, all surrounding the holes burned by battery acid.
I have a Red Ensign, but don't have the green monster thing about peeps who have the Blue.

Pink trousers which are tough, practical and because I like them. Blue ensign to which I am entitled and wear with pride since I am an honorary member of the club.

Trousers are usually cheap beige hiking trousers. No desire for a "posh" ensign (but no chip on shoulder towards those that do). However, I do have a couple of canvas smocks with the boat's name and silhouette embroidered on them, and one of them is that dark red colour. Does that count?

In the 70's we grotty yotties used to look down our noses at what we considered to be the yellow-wellie posers at Cowes, so much so that we had the 'Yellow Wellie' award for whoever said or did did the most stupid or snobbish thing. Reverse snobbery, I suppose.

The modern equivilent would be the baseball cap, wrap around Oakleys, 'designer' long shorts and Durberry boots, with 'offshore' oilskins so much de-rigour for couple of hours blast around the cans these days.

Most of my sailing wardrobe is from the same place as the rest of my wardrobe; Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Primark. Sadly, none sell pink or red sailing trousers.

....and me.

I did have a pair of correct dark tan trousers but they stayed that way and refused to fade to pink. Brown trousers could have their uses but I got rid of them.

Last time I was in the Channel Isles I bought a secondhand Guernsey Ensign for three quid but alas I am not allowed to wear it, so that plan came to nothing as well.
