I wanted to have the drain spigot removed from a Herald tank I fitted when I replaced the car. Even though the tank had by that stage been empty to my certain knowledge for five years, and was probably brand new and unused, no welder would touch it. Petrol in the seams is the problem, they say. Weld -> heat -> evaporate -> mix -> ignite -> kaboom.

A friend had an ali tank custom made for his Suzi 500 2T, it had a slight leak & he took it back the chap removed the fuel, held the filler hole over a car exhaust & then re welded the leak.
