Pin Mill Mooring and dinghy Damage---Who was it?

Just got back to my mooring near the Butt bouy, middle row at Pin Mill to find my new mooring strop missing, dinghy painter removed and blue antifouling left on the top of my mooring bouy. Also the dinghy had its bow thwart ripped out and paint damage to the gunwale. Did any one see ant thing from Thursday PM till today.
Clearly some one got caught up with the dinghy painter and mooring strop may be round a prop. They must have been there for a while. What a sad state of affairs it is when so called yachtsmen do this sort of thing. The boatyards know nothing. no note.

Very sorry to hear it, but I'm not optimistic about the outcome of your enquiries. All you need is to find someone who owns a blue boat and is both incompetent and lacking moral sense. Should narrow it down a bit.

Checked with Orwell yards with a boat hoist? ... Although I wonder if they would / could advise you if they had dealt with a boat with a wrapped prop.

That sucks. We were anchored off the beach inside the moorings on Thursday night, and then over on the opposite side opposite Buttermans Bay on Friday night (expecting to get some shelter from the forecast Northerlies). Motored up to Ipswich on Saturday morning and sailed back down river on Sunday morning. Didn't see anything happen in the vicinity of Transcur I'm afraid, but most of the time we were probably too far away anyway.

Sad, but many sailors today seem to be less responsible than in previous times. We all make mistakes from time to time, but we all have insurance (don't we?) to cover them.Twice in the last couple of weeks, I've been praised for my honesty - once in a restaurant, when they missed a bottle of wine off my bill, and once in an online shop. Both times, it was implied that people aren't honest any more.

Pete, happened on the 29th. the yacht was towed into Wolverston marina.

yep, inshore life boat attended, assume someone got tangled up and ended up aground as the tide was only half in, tea time, well I was having my tea anyway.

I have spoken to the skipper of the yacht who is very apologetic about the incident. A situation that should not have arisen.

I'm glad to hear that. When I read an account of the rescue I could see that it would have been a very confused situation during which leaving a note would have been the last thing on their mind.

Back in the eighties on a summer cruise, attempting to tack through the moorings at Waldringfield (with plenty of youthful confidence but little ability) I got it rather wrong & took a small chunk of gelcoat off the rail of an unattended boat. (Called Bluebell, I think-or possibly Snowdrop) After picking up a mooring I rowed over with a note of apology + phone number which I rolled to the size of a cigarette & tapped it through the vent in the washboard.
A week or so later the owner called, very grateful but also quite concerned to know just how I’d managed to get into his locked boat & leave a note on the chart table...

Managed to ding a grp charter yacht in Cherbourg the charterer was a bit annoyed but the next morning we fixed the hole in the toe rail so he could continue with his holiday.I left my name and contact address and received a bill for thirty quid when I reached Spain,so our repair must have been ok!

Sorry to hear about this. Did you see PVB's Tuesday post re lifeboat attending fouled prop near Pin Mill on Saturday 29th? Any connection?
