Pilot Jack - yes or no?

Does anyone have a definitive on whether this should ever be worn on a leisure boat? It seems to generate much controversy with much hearsay, but no apparent fact.

Be patient, do you mind if I ask what a Pilot Jack is... I guess you aren't referring to the "G" flag, or are you?

Its all nautical twaddle in my view like calling your bog your head (with an s on the end of course), left Port and Right Starboard. from a time that none of us remember and has little relevance today
