Pilot Gas Alarm Sensors

I have a pilot gas alarm. The sensors have a limited life and as they degrade the self-test tone gets longer and longer. I need to replace the sensor on mine (any suggestions for suppliers welcome!), but as I live in Portugal and since getting stuff by post from the UK has got a lot more difficult since brexshit, I wonder if it is worth buying a few sensors at the same time. So, do the sensors only degrade if they are installed and used (so I can buy a few a store them), or do they degrade over time whether or not they are used?

LPG sensors will negligible degrade if kept clean and dry in sealed packet for few years.

Do you know if the pilot sensor is an MQ-6?
