A very simpleand probably stupid quetion.

On my boat the pilot berth is supported by a metal bar. I wish to remove the pilot berths to incease the room for the main seats - does this bar contribute to the boats strength / rigidity or can i remove without consequence.

Without seeing it I would still suggest that the bar is highly unlikely to be structural. Presumably one each side running fore and aft about half way between floor /bunk tops and roof. Indeed one would normally see these easily lifted out of sockets to fold up the pipe berth. The boat does need structure to ensure rigidity from forestay to back stay with mast in the middle giving bending force however we would normally see the cabin top and flor/hull making a very rigid box so no need for more structure in the middle. ol'will
