Pillocks on the Dart (pictures)

Have just returned from the Bank Holiday weekend stunned by the crass stupidity, not to mention downright selfish behaviour of some peeps.

I think this notice is quite clear, the boat in the foreground had been there for at least three days when I left.

The pontoon here has only two cleats, this pillock made sure that he had exclusive access to one by:

1: Using a two foot painter and knitting rather than a long line and a bowline. This made sure that no one else had a chance to undo the knitting and re-moor him in a sensible fashion.

2: Reinforcing the above with an eighteen inch padlocked wire.

Just to prove he was not the biggest d*ckhead on the river some others came along and used the same technique. I despair.

Is this ignorance or pure selfishness?

Hmm! You seem to be mad enough to do something about it.
Have you ever read Arthur Ransomes "Coot Club"...............
Sometimes direct action is justified.
Of course it might be embarrasing if the owner is the Commodore.

Had the same problem at the Folly on Sunday night. There were two boats already secured there when I arrived, and on nice long painters. I secured with about a 8ft painter, and when I got back to the tender, I dis covered some ignoramus had secured his boat in a similar manner to that shown in your pictures. I very nearly fell into the water trying to get onboard, and was very tempted to turn the offending boat upside down.

Last year, during regatta the situation was even worse. I was moved to tie several of the offending boats nose to tail. Didn't see how they sorted that out. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Add another (old) padlock to his.
Doesn't help the access situation, but knackers him when he wants to go.
(if the pontoon owners are in agreement, leave the key with them, so they can rant at him when he goes to complain. Otherwise chuck it in the river)

Surely only a "local" would have such dinghies as these - even one of the oars is bust. Kingswear always was a bit "rough" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
