As I was pottering up Itchenor Reach the other day - making no wash /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif - I saw a couple trying to pick up a mooring by approaching it upwind but downtide at a time when all the boats were quite clearly tide rode and there was virtually no wind anyway.

There were no restrictions in terms of surrounding craft and it just seemed to me that, whilst not a difficult manoeuvre, they were making it more of a challenge than they needed to.

Maybe I'm just missing the point.

Or perhaps lack of experience....

Every one has to start somewhere.

I found the dazed kipper course I did woe fully lacking. We picked up a buoy the once out side yarmouth. With a quick few sentences on observation and use of wind and tide.
