Pick up point with car parking...SW...

Guys

Thanks for the continued responses, but for a number of reasons it needs to be the car. I'm sure there are great coach/train/plane services, we need the flexibility to ring up and say "we'll be there tomorrow morning" and a packed car is ready to go. The public transport suggestions are just not the preferred option.

I'm coming to the conclusion that dropping the gear off and then perhaps just leaving the car consideratly parked a few miles away on a public road and taxiing it back to the boat is the best option.

Hi I am moored in Brixham, when friends join me they use the street parking up the hill, there is loads of parking available and the view is fantastic. i have left my car there for a 8 days and there were no problems on my return. you can moore at the visiting pontoon at either MDL ( rip off) or the town Quay v.cheap. where you can re-water fuel and pop into town for supplies.

But not so good if you are starting anywhere east of Exeter and south the Exeter/Bristol/London axis. OP is Solent based.
I have no probem getting to the Solent by train, a lovely journey.

Still the OP has other reasons for using the motor car.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

It's not me who is looking to park, it's our respective SWMBOs. Car will be much easier for them than train as there is no set itinerary and they will have loads of gear. I don't think the one who is likely to be doing the driving is precious about her car at all.

Saltash sounds like a possible if someone can confirm...

PM sent with better idea.

I have used Mylor Marina car park several times for a week or so not cheap but no problems and easy to transfer gear.

Or use the Mylor YH carpark for a few hours until space becomes free on the quayside road - there's usually space overnight and (I think) it's unrestricted parking. The Apr-Sep restrictions don't start until further up the hill.

Thanks again guys...and OldBilbo cheers for the PM...all good stuff.

I think we have a few ideas there, very appreciative of the "local knowledge"!
