Could anyone recommend a good photographic forum?
I would like to take photography on as a hobby. It’s a shame there is not a devoted section on here where pictures can be posted as I really enjoy posting and viewing nice pics of yachts and the ocean.

Yes. An American based one with a great following in the UK is Photo Sig
Be prepared for criticism, but if you enter into it to learn you will get some very good constructive comments.
I did have the honour at one point of having the most thumbs down (their scoring method) for a lovely picture which included a ladies front bottom.

would prefer a forum set up the same as YBW though i have seen other forums useing the same format but have not found a photographic one yet,so the search continues.

I used photo sig for quite a while and learnt loads. Can be a bit disheartening when a photograph you really like is torn to shreds, but if you take the advice it is generally sound, it will improve your skills no end.

Never post a photograph of an American Stars and Stripes flag though !

Tony on here (MOBO) who also hosts photographs for people on the forum has started a yahoo group which is becoming popular. Some excellent advice available, though we do not post photographs as it is an e-mail based group.

Another forum I use is DP Review forums. I use the Olympus digital section mostly, but there are many many areas of interest, many running monthly competitions which are fun to enter.

Another from the IPC stable is Amateur Photographer Forums, I have not used this so much, but they also have a lounge (spooky eh!).

If you find anything else of interest please come back here to tell us...

The sign up procedure is a real pain on photo sig.

I believe so. I joined in phase 1 before the new improved software.

ooh fab pix. I think that the lakedistrict ones must be a bit photoshopped cos of zero clouds, not sure :-)

Also, there are sevral lumps of ater called "blea tarn", one between Wrynose and langdale, another between borrowdale and thirlmere and another on the ullswater -High Street fell range i think...

Thanks for your comments.
The first option - in Little Langdale.
There is plenty of Photoshop, mainly colour correction and sharpening, but strangely the cloudless state is original.
Two of those days after stormy weather when it suddenly clears up.

By the way look at dvinell's post (at the bottom of the thread). he has a lake district cloudless sky.

Nice picture but resizing to about 80% of original would be helpful so that those of us with small monitors don't have to scroll across the page to read the following text /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It may be because the link leads you to a member's area, although others have viewed it. Have you got Explorer, perhaps that doesn't talk to the site as well as Firefox does?
Have you got cookies enabled?

Ah. New thought. I've just logged on again. it may be that I closed down a window with PhotoSig on it so the site would want me to log in again. Try now.

Try www.photo.net. You're right about the yachting/photography interests going together. A lot of photos get posted here. Kim seems to be freer all the time with setting up forums so maybe he'll consider your idea.
