Photo of leech reefing line block sought

My original request was to see a block attached to reef cringle which I'd read about and which I hoped could improve my single line reefing system on 35 footer (main 379 sq ft).

I know what you mean, have seen the picture but cant remember the manufacturer. I think its a company which makes the barbed rings for mainsails etc.
What I saw was a block that was sewn or riveted into the reefiing point of the sail and had a small integral pulley which reduced the friction on the reefing line.
Ronstadt? (or is that a singer!)maybe Rugerson oh I give in...phone up a sailmaker.

Agree, and I wouldn't want three chunks of metal on the back of my main that could flog around.

If fitted to a fully battened main there is no flogging. I have them and there are no special protection patches and no wear is evident. They can be seen here.

If you've got that much of a problem with friction, it may be worth lubricating your sail sliders with silicon powder. If there is a problem getting tension on reefing lines, maybe you have to much wind in the sail when you reef. The way I do it is up the topping lift to scandalise the main, ease the sheet, lower the sail a bit to far, tension the luff and leach lines, then the haliard, ease off topping lift, sheet in and tension kicker. It really is like changing gear in a car, though it does take a minute (literaly) to do.

Really can't see that there is a problem here.
On my boat (I admit, only 25' so loads will be quite light) I have transformed the single line reefing system, from ineffective and dangerous, to quick easy and effective, by elimination of friction as far as possible; this includes small ball-bearing blocks and luff and leech reefing points which are simply attached by a small lanyard; the blocks are fairly cheap off-the-shelf items. Has been in use for a few seasons, and I must say that last Summer involved a fair amount of reefing. Have not seen any chafe nor any other problems, though I must agree with a previous post that use of 2 lines rather than single line could be a better way to go.
