Last year, we were wind blown in Grenada and discovered Grenada Digicell's International Bundle Plan giving you 120 minutes to any UK fixed line for EC$24 or 4-5p a minute. To my dismay, I find that Digicell further north, where we are headed does not appear to offer the same deal as Digicell Grenada, at least as far as the web site suggests. Does anyone know of any equally sweet deals to call the UK by local mobile from St Vincent, Dominica or the french islands?

>what about skype calls

Good idea but he problem we had is the people we wanted to keep in touch with were elderly relatives who don't have a computer. We never had a wifi problem because we had a high gain antenna which we tied to the boom with an extended USB cable, if it rained we put it in a plastic bag.

Great idea when you have WiFi but in our experience we frequently have mobile coverage but no WiFi when anchored off - even with the Alfa booster!
Surprised you cannot get wifi. Have found open wifi while at anchor in Deep bay, Green Island & Jolly Harbour, Antigua, Gudeloupe (Deshaies, but you may need to buy a drink to get a code), les Saintes the same. Sometimes it is a bargain to bite the bullet and go for Hothothot wifi service when going to places they serve: Dominica, Les Saintes, Deshaies, Antigua (various). SIM cards good value in Dominica and same card/ rates work in other ex Brit islands with Digicel. Digicel cards available every island. Digicel 3 and 4 g good in Antigua and Barbuda.
We use skype for cell and land line calls plus texting. Very easy and cheap. Also FaceTime with younger folk!

what about skype calls

This is what I used on a recent cruise to the Antilles and Jamaica. Nominate a country and get unlimited minutes for
£4 a month to a land line. Also works from UK for calling overseas !
Landlines and some cell phones.
Plenty of suitable free WiFi on all islands.

Used my Samsung phone.
