Further to the letters in PBO January, does anyone know the rest of the alphabet (used by the army in WW2) which goes
A is for 'orses
B for mutton
C for yourself
Q for hours
T for 2
X for breakfast
Y not
These are the only ones I can find out so far...over to you guys!
 
I have often wondered this myself. You have got what I know except:

O for the wings of a dove?
 
I now have a few more to add:

F for vescent
L for leather
M and eggs
R for mo

but where does E for bricks come from? Surely E for after would make more sense?

Going through this alphabet used to be an after dinner rictual whenever my Dad ( RAF W/T ) and my uncle ( Army weapons instructor ) got together - brings back happy memories.

Seeing Dad later this week and try to see what he can remember.

As I couldn't remember D, I used to change it to
D for Beeky, Mick and Titch
K's Catalogue
N and me for fighting

But I do remember that they all had 'for' between the letter and the 'definition'. So can anyone remember (or work out) what H, N, W and Z were for?

Incidentally, I believe that these, together with Bingo numbers, were occasionally used as extempore codes in wartime signalling.
