Phone scam? NB

I have a very simple system - I have caller display so the number shows on the phone - if it says "Witheld" then I don't answer the phone. Some international calls and some other calls show "Unobtainable" which means the data is missing but "witheld" means that someone has intentionally witheld the number - usually a sales call.
You can also get answerphone software for your PC - which can scan the caller ID info and have different messages for different numbers, i.e "Hi mum" or "Leave a message" or "P**s off you annoying sales person" depending on who's calling.

Re: \'number witheld\' calls

I have an American friend with a similar system. It announces that they do not reply to unidentified calls but then it invites you to announce your name and business. They then have the option of responding.

The perfect solution to burglary.

With time I have discovered this.

Have absolutely nothing worth stealing in your home.

Works a treat.

Re: The perfect solution to burglary.

Wasn't that always the missing part to the "In the we could always leave our doors open"........

"Because there was nothing worth stealing"

Thanks Kev

Thanks I have just registered - since I started working from home am amazed at how many calls come through during the day from Marketing co's can be 6-10 calls daily, when asked where they get my number from they ring off...needless to say now I don't answer any calls during working hours and leave the answer phone on, I have seperate no' for the 'office' so friends contact me through that.
What really get's my goat is the evening & weekend (especially sunday) canvassing must admit I have't been very polite in my response.
I do feel sorry for the caller as they are employed to do this work by unscrupulous companies and they must get really despondent receiving negative responses all day long.
Rant over
