... imagine you've answered the half a million question and you're asked where Cleit Rock is and you remember your friend who has annotated his pilot book where it shows this rock "watch this b*gger". would you ring him for the answer?

would you wonder: would the auld goat be sat in his favourite armchair under his favourite tartan rug, with his slippers on and his cup of ovaltine at his side. snoring away after dear heart has deftly removed his teeth. would he make any sense should he wake to answer the telephone?

Picture the scene

Claymore Towere
a romantic evening on the sofa, heifer and glass in either hand, Jimmy Shand playing on the wireless. The bakelite phone goes brrrrrr brrrrrrrrr brrrrr

" Oh feck, is it button A or button B" Ponders the auld goat
"dang" I'll press B

Voice on the phone" This is CT" whaurs Cleit Rock?"

AG not having the hearing aid on (saves batteries) receives this as

"This is yer aunt, whaurs ma socks?"

and shouts in reply

"You can f#ck yersell as weel, can you no see am busy"

Over the crackling of the log fire I think ye'd be OK!

Ask yourself, if said auld goat receives the question, knowing that your entire future happiness and wealth depends on his answer, and the abject misery and poverty he'll tip you into if it's wrong. Bearing in mind all lovely photos you've published, all his navigational and boathandling skills you've so fulsomely praised and all the kind things you've said about him and his beloved vessel in public over the years, what d'you think he'll say? "Just south of Tahiti"?

Re: Fortunately

Someone in the audience coughs loudly... shakes head and holds up card with words Gunna Sound on it...

Re: telephone samaritan ....

... i understand he's now offering a telephone service to those wishing to give up an assortment of bad habits ..... not likely to be much use given the auld goat can't put a battery in his hearing aid ....

Re: unFortunately

What a coincidence .. or is it a case of great minds.. I trust Claymore wasn't responsible for that debacle??? seeing as it was Claymore that replaced Loch Seaforth...
