Hi when i bought my boat 18 months ago (very cheap) ,most of the gear on it had been taken off . The Philips AP Navigator was still in place and lit up, but the whip antenna was missing .I thought it must old tec and obsolete ,is this correct ? thanks

um-i dont know much about this sort of thing but i have a phillips ap navigator gps which works well-it hasnt got a whip antenna tho-looks like a standard external gps one-pm me if interested and i'll get back to you with further info/part number when im on the boat again. i remember others told me that another company has taken over support for the gps branch of phillips-unhelpfully, i cant remember who this was off hand but i do remember looking at their website and they were still supplying parts-maybe other forumites can supply this company's name....? not much help i know

We've got a Philips AP Navigator, as mentioned it has a normal GPS aerial not a whip. It works just fine so suggest you try to find an aerial before dumping it. You will probably need to change its internal battery for it to keep its memory.

Judging by other posts there is a Philips ap GPS that I was not aware of.
Certainly Philips made an ap Navigator that was only Decca. Humungous number of them sold. Just looks like a little square black box about 5 inches square with (from memory) three vertical red buttons on it. Read out just lat and long from Decca system long defunct. Seems they carried on and made GPS version of it if others are correct. If so ignore my post!

...and I had a Phillips AP navigator that was GPS, that had an aerial similar to a Garmin, or any other GPS aerial.

It does not have a 'Whip Antenna'. It has a proprietary GPS antenna built by Philips who now longer support the unit. The antenna looks like a flat, slightly rectangular, white plate about 2 inches by 1-1/2.

The antenna is 12 Volt Tonader (Unbalanced) powered up the co-axial cable.

You will get absolutely no joy out of Philips who stopped making these when pussy was a cat.

Scrap it and by something other than Philips.

regards

brian
