Looking at buying a Phantom 50 and shipping back to New Zealand. Have had an azimut 46, need a change. Liked the look of the Sealine 50t but gone of these with negitative comments from owners. Any opinions from owners of the fairline phantom 50 boats would be appreciated. tell me what this boat is like, I want a model 2005 - 2007. Thnks

Hi and welcome.

They are a beautifully crafted and designed boat, but I am sure you know that or you would not be asked such a specific question.

Do you have any specific aspects you want info/views on?

There is one available here in the Channel Islands, a 2008 model so it may be outside your budget? Buying from outside the UK will help you avoid VAT if you are shipping it straight out to NZ.

Thanks for that, Do you have a Phantom 50 if you do tell me a little what you think of it, how does it handle, What is the visibility like when driving from downstairs, does it ride high making it difficult to see as some downstairs boats do. I am going to have a look at one when in london soon. One thing I would like to know is how do the volvos perform, I am used to cats and have heard a few bad reports about volvos. I am thinking the later ones are probably good but it is concern I have. Anything you or any other reader can tell me would be gradtly received. I will keep an eye on the channel Is

A customer of ours has one that may be for sale, but as mentioned it is newer than you indicated.

Visibility from the helm and nav seats is extremely good.

There are a couple of posters on the mobo forum with p50s and both like them very much. Son Vida and amillington. I haven't owned one but know the boat well and it is a great boat, considerably better finished than Az46 and sealine 50 imho

I have had the same engines though in my last 2 boats, the volvo D12. My last boat had 2x715hp versions and I did 800 hours in it and they never missed a beat. Very good engines imho, and I specifically sought the same engines when I changed boat (have the D12 800s now)

If you are interested in buying one in UK and having it shipped over the best dealer in the UK ihmo is essexboatyards.com. Talk to James or Nick Barke. Top guys, very helpful.

Where will you keep it in NZ? Chip in on this post and hel;p the guy out

Hi Azimut and welcome to the YBW forums.

As JFM said, we have a Phantom 50 with Volvo D12 715's. She is a 2005 model but we commissioned in January 2006. So far we have logged just over 300 hours with no problems to report. We use her most weekends and some holidays and spent 60+ overnights in 2008. Our cruising ground is the Irish Sea which can be notoriously choppy and she handles this very well. The viz from the lower helm is excellent - we normally trim the nose down slightly more to do with the sea conditions than viz.

We have been looking at newer boats lately and have been left dissapointed with what is on offer around a similar size. The obvious choice for us would be a SQ58 but they are out of our reach pricewise. We have no problem sticking with the 50 for another couple of years knowing that she will look after us well.
I spoze if I was looking for a new boat I would love Fairline to produce a new Phantom 50 - I really rate them that highly.

JFM has answered the engine query and mentioned EBY.

I would like to add that I have had recent dealings with James Barke @ EBY and even put a deposit down on a Phantom 48 "Childs Play". When we looked we didn't like the mid cabin and the overall feeling was that she was a step back from the 50. "no problem" said James and returned our deposit promptly.

There you have it, all thumbs up for Phantom 50, D12's and EBY /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Please keep in touch with the forum (perhaps better on mobo) and let us know how you got on.

Happy hunting /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
