A question for 40ft mobo owners

Where do you keep your tender and outboard ?

Any recommendations for a future Phantom 40 owner ?

Many thanks
Benny

Seems simple at first, like whitelighter says, on the bathing platform. But do you have passerelle or deck crane already fitted to the boat to lift the tender and outboard? Another question to bear in mind, how will you board the boat from the starboard side with the tender in place? I asked this question myself on a previous post reference flybridge boats with portside gate only entry and there was no simple answer unfortunately. Don't want to sound negative, as the Phantom 40 is a great boat, but fitting a decent size tender and outboard is not as simple as you first think in my opinion.

This is how we keep ours when under way. Not very elegant but pretty much the only sensible option with the tender we have. The outboard sits on it's bracket as shown in the pic. Stowing the tender is pretty easy, just lift it's stb side on the back edge of the platform and then pull the port side up using a rope attached to a lifting handle on the same side.

On our Azimut 39, the tender, Ribeye 2.6, lives on Hurley Davvits. We have a transom gate on port and starboard sides, so no problems with mooring either side. The Hurley makes launch and recovery easy.

We had an Avon 280 with a centre console and 15hp 2 stroke. As you can see this was mounted on the platform on chocks and lifted with a 200kg passerelle, was a good little outfit as a tender and also fun for a blast around the bay.
The only downside was it took up most of the space on the platform.

That's a great way to do that but you need to have a berth that's specifically port side to otherwise if you have starboard side to berth it's back to the drawing board!

This is a very good point, we did usually try and request a port side berth, otherwise it was a bit of a pain climbing over the rib!

Raf, I remember this being discussed sometime ago but do you have a pic at hand you could post?
Will do, but will have to fire up my laptop to do so. P/bucket does not really like my iPad. Set up similar to #10, but the Hurley allows launch and recovery with not additional support.

We have a Bavaria 37 with an extended bathing platform. We purchased a new Honwave 2.7 airdeck tender and put it on Hurley H2O davits. Works brilliantly - can keep the outboard on the tender, tender sits level on davits with a cover over it and access is still available for port or starboard side berthing. We had the added complication of a passerelle on the port side, but even with this the H2O davits work really well. Even the kids can launch and recover the tender without assistance. We purchased some stainless steel ratchet tie down straps from RapidMarine.co.uk to finish it off. All in all a great solution where the davits allow the tender to sit off the aft end of the bathing platform allowing maximum use of available bathing platform for access and not tender storage. Will try to find a photo of our setup when I get a chance.

Is the Phantom 40 the same hull as the Targa 40?

If so, without unduly wanting to hit the OP in the wallet, much interest and information might be obtained from this thread:

I would add that the extended swim platform on this fine craft is both a thing of beauty and well able to withstand the load imposed by your correspondent (i.e. me) who is more solidly built than perhaps I would wish.:D

I found your thread on the new boat and the davits -> http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?368729-Sea-Trial-on-the-Snazi-39

The concept looks very nice and I'm sure works well. My worry is that leaving part of the tender hanging off the platform exposes it to exhaust fumes from my TAMD75 Volvos. In fact, the pic I posted shows just this as, for I reason I can't recall anymore, I had the tender horizontally for some time and the result can be seen in the port side tube.

Soot is not a big problem on normal use but the dinghy seems to affect the airflow. Keeping it vertically eliminates this problem.

Something for the OP to be aware of (somewhat depending on the engines on his boat).
