Has anyone taken a pet abroad on their boat? How do you bring them back? Can I just call in at Dover and present the Pet Passport? Hoping to go next year so would appreciate any advice!

Some friends of mine keep a 69ft boat in Majorca and take their dog on some visits. They live in Glasgow and when taking the dog, they go by car and ferry crossing at Dover, but combine this with a maintenance visit and some en route sightseeing to justify the long trip and avoids complications for the dogs entry/exit.. Sorry don't know more to help you. Roy

IIRC the only way you can bring a dog back into the country, even if you have these passports, is to bring them back through specific entry ports (i.e. by ferry)

You can get information from the Defra PETS web site <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/index.htm>here</A>.

You need to plan ahead because the first passport issued is only valid 6 months from the date of the blood test. Also, as has been mentioned you can only use the system via certain official ferry or plane routes. You definitely can’t bring the pet back on your own boat.

Hope this helps.
