Hello
Just wondering we have been looking at buying Bayliners today they are American ?? so built with petrol engines but all converted to diesel for UK ??
Is there likely to be any issues with these conversions further down the line?
The other thing being I wouldn't know how many hours the engine has done would I?

Diesel engines can and do have hour counters fitted.

The simplest simply run all the time the engine is switched on ( which is normally only while it is running) I beleive there are hour counters which are triggered by the tacho and only register the hours that the engine is actually operating.

Some one told that the hour counter was the boat rather than the engine because if you changed it with the engine that would be like clocking a car (replacing the speedo because you have changed the engine)

I don't think it really matters - people rarely take much notice of hour counters, as they can be disconnected/replaced/etc. Assess the boat on its condition.

When you say they are converted for the UK no one converts a petrol engine to diesel it's a complete new engine if it's changed. Bayliners are built with Petrol or Diesel. No one would go to the expense of changing an engine just to use a different fuel unless the engine was already knackered. There are plenty Bayliners in the UK running on Petrol.
