Petrol Disposal

can't see why you can't just tip it into the oil recycling tank at the tip. It will get reprocessed through a refinery that will sort it out anyway

I pulled a few litres (of diesel) from the bottom of my tank that looked a bit gunky and had some water particles and did that with it.

Unless some is doing something more special to recycle the oil but i can't see why. They don't segregate synthetic and mineral oil types do they?

Does someone inspect the quality of your waste oil at your tip?

Petrol is not accepted at any of our local "tips"

The advice on the council website is to contact a local garage.

It would be highly irresponsible and potentially dangerous to put a highly flammable substance like petrol into a waste oil collection tank.

was thinking of small volumes here. it will be noise in amongst all that dirty oil

Dangerous because the air space in the collecting tank would then be an explosive air and petrol vapor mix. The petrol wont be mixed with the existing contents but remain pretty much at the surface, possibly until the tank is emptied, maintaining the explosive atmosphere in the tank.

It may present a problem in the subsequent collection and processing but I guess the people who do that have to recognize possibility that some irresponsible idiot may have put petrol in there.

I’ll get rid of almost anything.

As I’ve got some knotweed, nettles and ‘sticky-willies’ to try & kill. ;) :D

I have a few uses for old fuel.

My diesel vw used petrol sometimes, the lawnmower 4 stroke uses almost anything, so you shouldn't ever have to dispose of any. I'd be more careful with a 2 stroke engine where the fuel oil ratio is more critical. To much oil and they can run hot and seize, a lesson learnt on mopeds.
