Have (in previous smaller boat) arrived at Peter Port CI from France many times and quite happily cleared customs on the waiting pontoon waiting for the Marina. Never seems much point but they of course have the right to issue whatever paperwork they see fit.

BUT this year we have a bigger boat and will most likely want to Anchor out in Havelet bay. Can we just Anchor up and report to customs on shore once anchored ?

Doesn't seem lots of point in going on the waiting pontoon - probably being rafted on and then trying to leave 20 mins later when we have filled in the form.

We've been in the habit of doing as you suggest. You can fill in a form which you pick up from a little box on the quay or at the marina - or go to the office on the pier: they seem to be rather pleased to see you.

Stay out of Havelet if there is any swell from the south!

Last year when passing through Guernsey we planned to fill up with diesel and then anchor in Havelet overnight. We told the Harbour Master this as he approached us going for the fuel, he gave us the booklet and form and said we only needed to drop it in if we went ashore.

FYI there is alot of roll in Havelet at springs.

Roll in Havelet especially in a mobo can be bad.

If any slop go into St Peter Port pool.

Fuel at St Sampsons from Fuel Supplies about 39.5p.

Thanks for all your replies - as we have a Cat *some* of the roll might be avoided be we are not immune. Has anyone tried Fermain bay is that any better for over night?
