a friend of mine payed for this service from his vet, only to find that his dog has to be transported by a registered animal transporter ! anyone had experience in this area ? he intended to take his dog sailing abroad with him but it seems he can't !

he can take it on boat with him, but has to return to UK on commercial transport. Ferry would be fine.

Don't forget it will depend on which countries he visits by boat. If he visits a country outside the scheme, then back to quarantine

Travelling with an animal is generally not a problem until you return to the UK. Well OK NZ is difficult but around the Nth Atlantic it is straight forward. We came back over and needed to land in France where a friend collected our cat and returned on the ferry (registered carrier) and we then sailed back. I'm not sure about the quarantine bit BrendanS mentioned as Bee, my wife, deals with this side of things. If your friend needs any further first hand experience he can PM us.

It's all on the site. There is a list of EU and non EU countries that are part of the scheme. If you have been to any countries not on either list in the 6 months before return, then the animal has to go to quarantine as normal
