In the Personal Profile section of the Forums it lists ICQ Number and MMSI(DSCID). What do these mean ? I live on Vancouver Island, Pacific coast of Canada, and I don't think these references apply over here. Thanks.

ICQ is an internet facility to chat to other people signed up to ICQ. It's live, and you have to be online. Your ICQ ID is an equivalent of your telephone number.

MMSI ID is also similar to a telephone number. MMSI is used in the new DSC enabled VHF radios, bit like an electronic version of a call sign. Instead of calling another boat on channel 16 then transferring to a working channel, you dial in the MMSI of the boat you want to call. They will recieve notification they have recieved call, and can then or later respond, and automatically you are both transferred to working channel.

Hi Alan

Thinking about a bareboat charter out of Vancouver next Summer.
2 famillies (7 people) so would need 40 foot plus. Any recommended
charterers?

Cheers

ICQ was used more widely here when we could show when users were online (to enable real time chat) but ICQ changed its code and that increased the time it took us to display all pages so we dropped the facility. Still useful if you want to find other ICQ users though.

A window for the MMSI number was requested by users; adoption has been low but we'll leave it as it seems a good idea as DSC becomes more common.
