I have swam in the thames on a few occasions, but I do remember once whilst we were moored up at Goring (on the path just downstream of the lock), that I got in the water behind the boat and was fine, but as soon as I went out to the side of the boat, you could really feel the force of the current. I actually had to hold onto the fenders on the side on the boat, so didn't stay in there long.
Its a timely lesson at the start of the summer holidays in maintaining a guarded respect for the river I guess.
In parallel with our other thread about the kids enjoying themselves with 'wholesome' fun, this shows the fine line that we tread....I must admit I feel uncomfortable every time Chris and the boys go to the rope swing near Shiplake.....but the river 'seems' calm there so I've not interfered.
Apart from just a gentle reminder to 'take care'.....what are your thoughts?
