Did the exercise yesterday. I still have to look at it and twizzle my finger in the direction I think I need it to go, before I believe I am right.

You put the furler line on the wrong way round. Tie a line around the genoa to stop it unfurling the take the line off and put it back the other way around the drum.
KellysEye gave you the right answer, what is the matter with you all!

Have we just stumbled across a new form of subtle practical joke to play on unsuspecting "friends" - rewind their genoa the wrong way whilst they are at the pub to baffle them next morning?

Any other ones to do at the same time? Reversing the direction of the steering wires is a good one, but not so easy to do.

No he didn't.

You have to take the sail off the spar. Then wind the line onto the drum in the correct direction and then re-hoist the sail!

Alternatively take the line off, unfurl and re-furl the sail the correct way by hand then refit the line.

Post #26 Vic. I hand-rolled the headsail on the foil, connected the line and unfurled the sail using a sheet. That filled the drum with enough line.
Hard work if you have a large headsail though.

There is nothing wrong with the sail, so why take it down. the drum simply needs the line rotating the correct way, when you pull out the sail and furl it, it will have the uv strip on the correct side.

There's also the correct rotation of the furler to consider,

"The genoa should be reefed in the same direction as the strands turn on the forestay."

thats from the Plastimo installation manual.

The sail is furled the wrong way!

What you suggest will not correct the situation

When you pull out the sail it will simply rewind the line the way it was before and when you pull the line to furl the sail again you are back where you started with the sail inside out!

With a small sail you can take the line off, unfurl the sail and re-furl it by hand the right way without removing it from the spar then refit the line.

With a larger sail that's not so easy as LS suggests in #30.
Easier therefore to unfurl and remove the sail. Then remove the furling line and rewind it in the opposite direction before re-hoisting the sail.

There is another possible "twist" to getting the sail rigged wrong at the start of the season.

One year when we set off on our first trip we unfurled the main and then tried to unfurl the genoa, it went about 1 turn and then stopped, it took me a moment or two to realise that the reefing line was already fully wound onto the drum with the sail furled, and that trying to unfurl was just winding it in further.

Plan B was quickly adopted, refurl main, pick up a buoy at Pin Mill and have lunch while I sorted out the cock up.

I have also done what OP did and had the sail inside out, s**t happens as our American friends would say.
