In Finland a yacht is considered as private area as ones home is, so what kind of permit does an authority need to enter a yacht to check the right quality of diesel ? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

In this country none, Customs have a statutary right of entry, in fact they have more powers than the Police.

Can't speak for Finland but in UK Custome and Excise have greater powers than the police. They are entitled to check any fuels for duty paid.

Snap!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There'll probably be a rule for a mandatory sight tube on the side of your boat /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Of course! Our Customs Officers are always very polite, it's just if you are stupid enough to give 'em earole, that you will find out just who is boss!

While I am on the subject, I don't know about the rest of you, but I have never had a single problem with our Customs people. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A fellowsailor in US had the customs coming on board but they had very rough looking boots with black rubber soles so he insisted them to take off the boots before entering. At first they refused but the boatowner was determined enough so at the end they came on board with bare feet. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've never seen a Customs person (man/woman....) Not particularly noticable round these parts.

Tell a lie. I live in Dumbarton which is home to the majority of whisky bonds in Scotland. They must be about somewhere!

The UK sounds worse under socalisum than say latvia was under communisum??

Is it Tony Brown im forever reading about thats enforcing this systamatic asset stripping culture? In favor of the state, but what on earth is the state doing with all that money???Its crying povety and give me more since elected?

And not just the UK but France & Italy as well but they are not so extreem as the UK reminds me of Germany which has learnt that taxes are not the way to go.

What Socialist Government would you be refering to Monseiur?

Are you perhaps suggesting that this pale blue Conservative government that now afflicts us is a Socialist Government???

Ho, Ho, Ho, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There is very little to choose between the present opposition (Conservative) and Nu-Labour, they are all a bunch of plonkers!..............Oh yes, if you listen to the ultra right wing Conservative reactionaries that infest these hallowed pages, you probably could be forgiven for thinking that indeed Nu-Labour are Socialists /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The truth is of course that the right wing political opinions generally expressed here on these forums are coloured by only one thing as a rule............Money! and how much they can make and how much they can keep! Not to put to fine a point on it............GREED.

Most of the aforementioned opinions are expressed by the occupants of Middle England............and Middle England has long had an inflated sense of it's own importance. I expect that you are familiar with Tolkiens Middle Earth?

Well the only difference between Middle Earth and Middle England is that Middle Earth is Fairy Land, and Middle England is La-La Land!

Do not make the mistake of assuming that the opinions expressed by the denizens of Middle England are indicative of the rest of the UK.

[completely off topic rant]Since when has wanting to keep what you have earned been greed?

Only greed I can see is that of a segment of society that has grown up in the UK, expecting, rather than appreciating support and handouts.

I don't earn a fortune, but I save hard, and go without things to afford my boat.... might be a lesson that some could learn a little more directly IMHO.....

I don't begrudge the needy one little bit. In fact, I would vote for more support, not less.... its the 'hanger-ons' that I begrudge, that are just lazy rather than needy.... and its those that have created the vision of the greedy middle englanders... yet in reality, they are the ones that suffer from greed...... "I want it, but I can't be arsed to save for it, so i'll demand it instead, and if I don't get it, i'll do my best to make it impossible for anyone else too"[/rant]

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I think i shouldent have said what i did??Hope i havent started something??
I was just thinking of another post that said he would have to pay 40% tax on the value of his boat if he died.

I thought,he worked for his money paid a lot of income tax then paid sales tax to buy the boat tax on the equipment and tax on moorings then is taxed or the remaining cash when he dies and the boats sold

I then thought that teachers and nurses (being mainly woman) are paid less and less there pension age raised to that of men and the taxe office cries "no money"
Roads to be come toll and trains to increase fares becouse managers cost a lot(not staff)

The labour party is the socalist party????Isent it called that??Arnt they financed by Arther Skargills TUC???????

I just read the online paper IHT and Gardian there the best online or the Turkish daily news and riviera reporter or http://www.the-islander.org.ac/ as id like to go there!!

I dont belive in taxes anyway as no one provides any benifits i have private medical insc pension and boat insc all paid and no benifits whatsoever from any government anywhere!! I did ask in an earlier post, but seems i dont qualify! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

And here was I thinking that it was the conservatives that had gone pail red.

In all the Labour governements I've ever seen, theres been one common denominator. Spend like no tomorrow without any results and tax, tax tax.

I've been in the secret headquarters of their investigations division which is an unmarked building not a million miles from you. Just helping with their enquiries you understand!

They work quite hard at being "not particularly noticeable." /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I met a customs man once. After a couple of hours jilling about waiting for enough depth of water I went into St. Andrews harbour. I saw a chap waiting for me on the quayside wearing some sort of uniform and, assuming he was the harbourmaster, threw him my lines. He didn't seem to know what to do with them but then, after I'd tied up, asked me where I'd come from. "Anster", I replied. "Not from abroad then?" said he, looking rather disappointed. "In this?" said I, indicating my Vivacity 20, "ye'r kidding!"

Apparently he was based in Dundee but also occasionally visited the nearby wee harbours like Tayport and St. Andrews. Quite chatty after I managed to convince him that I wasn't shipping in contraband from foreign climes.
