Anyone got any views on these,the six litre 265/300hp versions?Someones coming to measure up the engine bay after the boat show to see if they're willing to be fitted into the hell hole.
They also think our gearboxes will fit which would be a result and that our girly 1.5 inch shafts would be ok if remade.
I did explain to the nice man that we had to sell the bungalow in Broadstairs first and he still seemed keen.So any views on these engines would be appreciated as the specs look promising.

Well, I had a M225Ti in my previous boat, it was a fab engine, was 7 years old and 500 hours, looked nice, ran like clock work, was oil and coolant tight, never smoked, could not fault it except.....

Look very carefully on the website and you'll see that the 225 is 204 hp, the 265 is 240 and the 300 is 265 (i think), I might be a little out with the firgures but the fact remains that they continue to market and sell these engines badged as something they quite clearly are not. Also check rating, might be something like +/- 10% and with 40 deg fuel which is concievably a lot less than the nominal.

Oh, and they are bloody expensive.

If you can fit one of these you can fit a Cummins B series...in which case you need to talk to a friend of mine...

Yeh the 300 is 280hp,must take the initial figures from the crank or piston top! I'll let you know,the biggest problem I've got is height of the engine as these are to replace a pair of Americas finest(ho ho)V8's which have a clearance of about nothing.

Borg Warner what 72c's, I would check that they are able to handle
the HP of your proposed new engines, I bought a pair of Sabre Fords 180 from a guy who was assured that the Perkins would just "Fall in" IT TOOK 5 MONTHS for them to fall, and a lot more money on top of the original budget.

I am thinking on the same lines as our friend. (Re-engine)
Perkins Sabre. 225/204 would be OK.
265/250 would be delightful.

I would be interested in a chat with "your friend" the Cummings man.

Green or grey engines have been viewed.
These promise the world. With all modern innovations.

6 cylinder, 6 litre. Tried and tested they command confidence.
Size is critical to me. Colour is irrelevant. Good vale is essential

Don't know anything about the Perkins, but my friend with the Laguna 11.5 M seems to have plenty of space for his Cummins... Also would have believed that some of the Detroit V6's and perhaps even the V8's .... would fit in ... heavy I know, but should be compensated by price, torque and HP.... will have to change shafts though.. adding to the cost... What's your max height ?? and angle on shaft of course...

Thanks everyone,the hp at the gearbox is about the same as what I've got at the moment so that should be alright.The guy is going to quote for the whole job as I really don't feel up to lugging about all that cast iron.As regards price of the engines Ben the're pretty competative,although definatley interested in Cummins if they're in the same rev range,2500/2700.I really don't want to get bigger shafts if I can avoid it and staying in the same hp/rev range seems the best way, if not the most efficient way to go.

I fitted a pair of 265 sabres to a boat and kept it for 4 years very good engines but there are many other engines in that power band think Vp as well and seek a comparative quote.

Cheers Alf,only trouble is its still going to be a couple of months until funds are available and I'll probably buy in the UK in case there's any problems with the "investment".The 2 year warranty also looks good with the Perkins but I am keeping an open mind at the moment.
