Thanks for a lot of advice re. my old Ford Sabre 212c's and the compatibility of the gear box to Perkins etc. Next problem is there are no Perkins here in Cyprus and I have been offered Cummins 240's as an alternative. Anyone have any strong advice/views/technical data that might help me make a decision please. Thanks.

From my humble knowledge, the cummins is highly regarded in the vehicle industry, I think you'll find the cost of pistons and liners and bearing shells and stuff is really low compared to others. There is a cummins block of about 240 hp that is four cylinder (the most powerful 4 pot on the market?) or maybe the b series 6 pot which is 6 litre or the c series that is 8ish litre, I think, if you want to go the cummins route I can give you a fone number of a bloke that has re-engined many boats with cummins engines recently.

Suspect others wil lknow much more than me.

Burgundyben,

I have supplied both companies with valve lifters and camshafts for more than 30 years.

They both have good product BUT Cummins, in my opinion, has the edge. Good solid design, 'clean' exterior of engines and, if a factory fit, excellent marinisation.

Go for it!
