Recently, after an 'unreliable' period, my "Engine Stop" button on the console has ceased to function, and this, I'm presuming, activates the solenoid mounted on the fuel pump block to shut down the fuel supply, thus stopping the engine.

The diesel is not "running away" in the conventional sense, and in order to shut it down I have to remove the air filter and shut off the air supply, the engine stops almost immediately. Now this is quite a bothersome routine and is far from an ideal situation.

Tracing the wiring is made doubly difficult in that the tracer colours appear to change in inaccessible places and the handbook is next to useless.

Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon, and if so what was/were the solution(s)?

If not, does anyone have a good wiring or block diagrams depicting the system so that I may chase all possible sources of the fault?

I am recently arrived in Falmouth Harbour, Antigua and haven't yet found a source of Perkins spares.

Thanks in anticipation of enlightened comments from the assembled experts?

I have a similar problem on a Perkins M50 Prima.

Pending finding a spare, I have wired another switch just behind the panel. I assume, like mine, your panel is exposed and the switch has corroded :( but the solenoid is OK.

ps There should be a manual mechanical stop on the high pressure pump, that would avoid trying to block the air intake.

Thanks Hoolie, my switch appears to be functioning correctly, when checking with an AVO it confirms continuity across the two connectors when pressed and a circuit break when released. It is, after all, a straight on/off switch.

I'll pull the solenoid out again tomorrow and give that another try.
